November News
Cinerama have now returned to The United Kingdom following their twenty three date concert tour of The United States Of America. The tour was Cinerama’s largest so far and the band would like to thank everyone who came along and made the trip the success it was. While in Atlanta the band stopped off at Zero Return Studios and recorded two new tracks “It’s Not You, It’s Me” and “Erinner Dich”. The latter is a cover of a German disco record. More news about this later… in the meantime we are pleased to announce that the second Cinerama singles compilation, the 14-track “Cinerama Holiday” is now available for sale from the merchandise section of this site, and Torino has just been released in Japan by P-Vine Records.

Further Tour Dates & a new single & video
Cinerama recently completed a concert tour of Great Britain in support of
Torino, their new album. The concerts went very well [apart from the one in
Dundee which was cancelled because the promoter double-booked the band into a
hip hop night and declined David’s offer to go up and do a bit of
scratching]. Cinerama would like to apologise for this cancellation and at
the same time thank everyone who made the effort to come along to the other
dates. The band are now preparing for further concerts in Northern Ireland
and The Republic of Ireland next month and, at the same time, working on an
American tour which will start in California on September 26 and end there a
month later. Early confirmed dates include:
27.09.02 Los Angeles Troubadour
28.09.02 San Francisco Great American Music Hall
01.10.02 Seattle Crocodile
05.10.02 Chicago Metro
09.10.02 New York City Knitting Factory

Uncut magazine
David Gedge discusses five of his favourite films in a short article for the August 2002 issue of Uncut Magazine which is in shops now, priced £3.90.
The magazine goes on to review Cinerama’s new album: “It’s taken four years but, with last year’s epic “Health And Efficiency” single making Number Three in John Peel’s Festive Fifty, Cinerama are finally escaping the shadow of David Gedge’s illustrious indie-legend past. In Wedding Present terms, “Torino” is Cinerama’s Seamonsters; a giant beast of adulterous lyrical fantasies, cult soundtrack flourishes and the screams of Gedge’s Steve Albini-engineered guitars. The surreptitious text message of “Get Up And Go” shows his sketches of infidelity are moving with the times, while Gedge’s music - as on the orchestral grunge blockbuster “Cat Girl Tights” - has, if anything, ripened with age.”

TOTP2 performance
The Wedding Present’s 1990 Top Of The Pops ‘performance’ of "Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)" will be reshown courtesy of BBC2’s "Top Of The Pops 2" on Tuesday 9th July - sandwiched in between Bauhaus and The Real Thing, apparently!
If nothing else this will give you another chance to marvel at guitarist Peter Solowka’s masterly use of the ‘double necked’ guitar as the band rip their way through the Cockney Rebel cover which was originally recorded for the "3 Songs" EP. This track is now available on the Camden DeLuxe reissue of "Seamonsters" which was released in 2001 along with Bizarro, both of which with extra tracks. |
