The Wedding Present to release ‘Marc Riley Sessions Volume 5’

On 23 May 2025, CLUE Records will release the fifth in The Wedding Present’s series of compilations of live radio sessions recorded for the BBC’s Marc Riley, on vinyl and CD.

Marc Riley Sessions: Volume 5 consists of two studio sessions – from 2019 and 2023 – and follows, rather unsurprisingly, ‘Marc Riley Sessions: Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4’.

David Gedge says: “This fifth volume in our series of live recordings is particularly interesting because it straddles not only the COVID pandemic but also our 24 Songs singles series. For the latter we re-enacted the ‘twelve singles in a year’ idea that The Wedding Present had first used in 1992 for the Hit Parade. Consequently, on this record, you can hear both early versions of songs that went on to be released as singles, together with later versions of songs that had already been released!

“It’s also notable for hearing us have a go at two cover versions – Magazine’s ‘A Song From Under The Floorboards’ and Low’s ‘Canada’ – together with a version of our own ‘Sports Car’ where I relinquish control over the lead vocal for once.”
